When is the season?

The dolphin watching season in Kalpitiya runs from November to April, when the ocean is calm and large pods of spinner dolphins can be seen almost daily. The best time for whale watching, especially for sperm whales and occasional ORCAs, is February to March, when deep-sea conditions are ideal for sightings.

Where do the tours start from?

Tours usually start from either Kudawa Beach in Kalpitiya or Alankuda Beach in Norochcholai, depending on the location of your accommodation and where you are coming from, so we can arrange the closest and most convenient starting point.

What time & Duration?

The standard starting time is around 7:15 AM, allowing you to reach the open ocean when dolphin activity is highest. Dolphin watching trip lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours and whale watching trip lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on how far the animals are and the overall weather conditions.

What animals can we see?

During the tour, guests commonly see spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, sperm whales and sometimes even orcas during peak migration periods.

Do you guarantee sightings?

Sightings are not 100% guaranteed, but Kalpitiya offers a very high success rate (around 90%), and we will always do our best to find the animals for you.

Is the tour safe for guests?

All tours are operated with licensed boat crews and fully equipped with life jackets and safety gear. The trip is suitable for families, including children, Pregnant women and babies are not recommended to join..
